What is Face Reading?
The art of face reading has been used since pre-Taoist times by Chinese doctors as an aid to diagnosis and a way of helping their patients, using the deep knowledge of the personality afforded to them by close observation of the face. Face reading was also used by professional face readers -- physiognomists -- who were part priest, part Taoist, astrologer and counsellor who practiced non-traditional divinational arts. These were well-educated men (as far as I know there were no female face readers in those days!) with much compassion for human frailty. It first appeared in China during the 6th Century BC, and became established in Chinese life and medicine with texts on the subject such as The Golden Scissors and The Bamboo Chronicles.
In Chinese culture in those days it was understood that the face represented our vital energy and each person's unique blend of the Five Elements and Yin and Yang. This wisdom has seen a huge resurgence in the West during the past 30 years with the growth of acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, Feng Shui, Qi Gong and Tai Chi.
Face reading is as relevant today as it was in the past and its use in cross-cultural. The starting principles are still the Five Elements and Yin and Yang, and each feature represents the personality, drive, emotions, mental approach, attitude towards career and relationships and the person's challenges and talents. Like the foot in reflexology, the face has many zones which relate to the internal organs. By looking at the zones it's possible to pinpoint areas of stress which are affecting the face and creating lines, puffiness, redness and a dull complexion.

Your face holds the key to what is going on inside your body and its zones and lines can be read like a book. Excess worry and an overtaxed liver show up as lines between the eyebrows and redness in the zones which show digestive problems. Dark circles under the eyes show stress on the kidney functions, dehydration, hormonal imbalance and toxins in the blood.
Excess puffiness under the eyes can be stomach problems and food intolerances. A deep blue colour in the corner of the eye can indicate your adrenals are overstressed. Open pores mean you are lacking in certain minerals and eating too much acid food. If the chin is red, you may be suffering from a yeast infection (Candida). Spots around the mouth indicate hormonal problems.

Face Reading and weight loss
Kate Winslet used Face Reading to lose 4 stone after the birth of her second child. "The weight just fell off" she said. Face reading is a huge asset in the battle of the bulge as it can help me to pinpoint exactly what sort of dietary adjustments are best to improve metabolism, clear intolerances and shed the pounds. I'm not into fad dieting, strict and hard to follow regimes, tons of supplements or living on green smoothies (as much as I love them!), just practical advice tailored to each person's needs.
