Gracie has the oval-shaped face, prominent cheekbones and pale skin and hair of the self-reliant metal element type which corresponds physically to the respiratory system, skin, colon, and the upper body area. The metal type doesn’t start with a business plan or spreadsheet like the wood element type, or provide rousing, emotional leadership like the fire type; it takes up the sword coolly and fearlessly against injustice, and cuts away that which is outdated or damaged.
In her presentation to the Select Committee about discrimination at the BBC, she told MPs it wasn't about the money — she refused the news organisation’s offer of £45,000 to kiss and make up. It was, she stated, about “applying the law, her status as a specialist journalist, collective rights for women across the BBC, pay parity for work of equal value, and acknowledgement that her work in China was as good as her male peers” — all qualitative concerns of the metal type.

After a thirty year career at the BBC, her career lines at 56 show a slowing down, time for a change of direction, consolidation and a less stressful life.
