You were Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane but you grew, as life became 'the best is yet to come'. You found your spirit as you discovered that aging - not raging - is about cleaning the filter on the camera lens: getting rid of of the expectations, pre-conceptions, societal ideas of who and what we are and how we have to fit in. You didn't fit in. You explored, broke boundaries, looked into the future of digital music and downloading years before it became mainstream; you read and understood Marshall McLuhan; you trod your own path and became the David Bowie you were meant to be. Laugh Lines for starters! Chinese Face Readers say the lines on the face are like the bark of a tree – they show life experience and character. Laugh lines are the wrinkles on the side of the eyes which form with real smiles on faces that move with emotion; the give-away lines of joy and laughter. Botoxing out our lines is like erasing our history: why make them, and one’s love of life, invisible? English actresses Dame Judi Dench and Julie Walters are wonderful examples, with laughter lines matched by a warm and mischievous heart-spirit in their eyes. Dame Helen Mirren is quoted in September’s Daily Mail: “A few crow’s feet are nothing when combined with the self-confidence that can only come with advancing years”. I love UK actresses Jane Seymour and Charlotte Rampling : faces without the insecurity of youth, not bowing to society’s pressure for a homogenized look of beauty. FutureFace celebrates Sophie Hunter, wife of Beneditch Cumberbatch, who has a bump in her nose. Beauty isn’t about looking perfect, or having a pert nose, it’s about appreciating our individuality. In Chinese Face Reading, a big nose is about a strong ego and cast-iron self image. Think Annie Leibovitz, world-renowned photographer; Diana Vreeland, iconic Vogue editor; Nicky Morgan, current UK Education Secretary; Laura Alvarez, Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn’s wife; Jessica Ennis-Hill, Olympic Gold medallist. Tony Blair, former UK Prime Minister, is a high-profile example. FutureFace loves to see a balanced look in the eyes. Take Will.i.am – both his eyes show the steady, calm aura of someone who is on a harmonious ‘Golden Path’: doing what he was destined to do in this life. He brings hope to people, and new technologies to the world. Can you see the wisdom, strength and depth of understanding in the face of the Sioux Chief and the warmth and compassion in both eyes of former Northern Ireland and Middle East peace negotiator, retired US Democrat George Mitchell? Ever wondered why there was such lovemania for Benedict Cumberbatch after the first series of Sherlock? It’s all in the mouth: a subliminal message in the cupid's bow shape of the top lip. The male rosebud – sexy actor Tom Hughes has one too – reveals a caring and emotionally expressive lover; a man who understands and likes women and values the feminine. Quite unlike his Sherlock character, but then face reading always solves the mystery! Something to check out on Tinder maybe? Be sure to eat foods that purify the body Give thanks for the miraculous concealer Touche Eclat and huge sunglasses seen on celebrities coming off long-haul flights. They hide a multitude of sins, including under-eye shadows. I’m often asked how to get rid of those dark circles which can make us look like pandas or a Lucien Freud portrait. Why do we get them? The most common reason is ‘vascular pooling’ where the skin’s micro-circulation becomes sluggish in the tiny blood vessels under the eyes. This usually starts with lack of sleep, anxiety, hormonal imbalance, poor diet, digestive problems and dehydration. Allergies and regular or intense pressure around the eyes also disrupts blood flow and causes discolouration and toxic build-up. Do you wear glasses whilst looking at a computer or iPad for hours? Very light tapping around the eye sockets (like touching a hot iron) can improve circulation. Ideally do this mini-massage 10 times three times per day -- at your desk, watching TV, or whilst cleansing and moisturising. In Face Reading, dark circles with a blue tinge indicate an imbalance in kidney energy which regulates the body's water balance, hydration and hormones. Acupuncture strengthens kidney and adrenal vitality depleted through stress and dehydration and alleviates those dark shadows. I also advise keeping off tea, coffee and alcohol and cutting back on salt, drinking pure water, and taking minerals and essential fatty acids found in wild salmon or Omega 3,6,9 capsules. Puffiness often occurs at the same time as the skin around the eyes is very thin and has the highest water content of the face. And if you can see a yellow-ish or brown-ish tinge as well, it's a sign your liver is overworking! Cutting back on alcohol will help, and I prescribe thorough liver detox protocols in the Spring to reduce those bags! Lymphatic drainage in my Face Lift Massage works wonders on de-puffing and the age-old cucumber slices on the eyes trick helps by cooling and deflating the area. If you have two bluish dots in the inner corners of your eyes, it’s another sign of adrenal stress. Two-thirds of women are constantly tired and rely on sugar and caffeine to get by! So don’t forget to put a dab of concealer in the corners as well as underneath! Keep those sunglasses to hand, and make sure you catch up after sleep deprivation! |
